Day Two

Happy Caucus Day!

Before I talk about Healthy 2012, I want to share this video that was created - I believe - in response to Stephen Bloom's horrible article about Iowa.

*Caution: this video has some a lot of objectionable language.

While I am very interested in politics - especially this particular election - I'm not sure I'll be able to stay awake for the results.  I am absolutely exhausted and can barely keep my eyes open to type this post.

But I must.

First, I wanted to show you a few photos of the last couple of days:

My beautiful new centerpiece - and a key to the Abs Diet.

This is what $200 from Hy-Vee looks like.

I finally made an "in-advance" weekly meal plan, and it's been extremely useful thus far.

Hoppin' John that I made for dinner January 1st.

Mahi-mahi with a blueberry-mango salsa, along with roasted Brussels sprouts.
Now to the "meat" of today's post: a daily recap.

I woke up, and while it was obvious I had worked out yesterday, my muscles weren't too ridiculously sore.  Don't get me wrong: they definitely hurt, but I wasn't dying.  That changed as the day went on...

For breakfast, I had the other half of the Halle Berry smoothie, and again, I was stuffed until it was time for my morning snack, which was a cup of yogurt and four strawberries.  Again, that doesn't seem like much, but I was good-to-go until lunch!  I also had an iced coffee with a splash of skim milk and Truvia.

Lunch today was leftover mahi-mahi, and it turns out that fish isn't that great when it's cold.  Gross.

Unfortunately, it didn't keep me full.  My tummy was growling not even an hour after I finished eating.  But, I waited anyway to have my afternoon snack of a hard-boiled egg and an apple.  I knew I had to wait a couple of hours - otherwise I wouldn't have had enough fuel to make it through my workout.

Boot camp today was great.  We started off by jogging around the gym and doing miscellaneous exercises (i.e. fast-feet, high-knees, butt-kicks, and one more that I can't remember) throughout.  Then we went straight to kick-boxing, which I haven't done since Farrell's.  It was fun to get back into it.  In addition to punching and kicking the crap out of the bag, we did various sit-ups, jumps, squats, wall-sits, shuffles, planks, Supermans, and other killer workouts.

While my muscles initially felt better after getting warmed up and worked out, I can now barely move from the couch.  Holy smokes.

For dinner, I made another Abs Diet recipe: Three Amigos Chili.

This was quite the meal: it was so filling that I couldn't even finish it.  I don't know how I'm going to be able to make it through the whole pot.  I mean, it was delicious (especially since I loaded it with cumin), but wow: very substantial.

Unfortunately, I don't believe I'm going to make it to my evening snack yet again.  And these are what I've been looking forward to, as they are pretty much desserts.  Oh well...

I'm just too full and too tired to make it happen.  Maybe tomorrow.

Talk to you then!

P.S. Will you let me know who wins the Caucus?  I'm headed to bed as soon as I hit "publish"!
